Frequently Asked Questions

What does recovery mean while grieving?

Recovery is finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having them precipitate painful feelings. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly all right to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how others around you react. Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about the loss you’ve experienced is indeed normal and healthy. Most importantly, recovery means acquiring the skills that we should have been taught in childhood.

What about the 5 stages of grief?

The stages—Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance—were created by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross for those in late stage illnesses. Grief is not linear so applying the above stages can actually cause more stress on the griever.

Is there proof this works?

The Grief Recovery Method has been proven to be evidence based and effective by Kent State University.

How is it different from therapy?

Unlike traditional therapy, The Grief Recovery Method® comes with a pre-established framework, a distinct focus on grief, and a limited number of meetings.

When is the best time to start?

The answer is different for everybody, depending on the loss you’ve experienced and when you have the willingness to do it. The key, however, is to not wait many years to say goodbye to pain and unfinished emotions.

Is this reimbursable by my insurance?

The Grief Recovery Method® is considered educational in nature and is not therapy. Therefore, it is not considered reimbursable by insurance. Some clients find their employer's HSA or FSA will reimburse them. I am happy to provide a detailed receipt (also called a "superbill" by insurance companies) for you to submit for reimbursement.

What is the amount of the investment?

The investment is $497.

Do you offer a payment plan?

Yes! I recognize everyone is in a different financial situation, so I am happy to break the investment into payment amounts that work with any budget.

What is your refund policy?

If you change your mind and notify me within 24 hours of the first session, I will issue a full refund.
