What is Grief?

Thinking Man on Couch

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss of any kind. It happens when there are conflicting feelings caused by the end of, or change in, a familiar pattern of behavior.

"The Grief Recovery Method gave me an outlet the pain of my losses. I know I have more to process and now I feel I have the tools to do that."

Grief is about loss, not death alone. Some examples are:

  • Empty nest
  • Divorce or breakup
  • Moving
  • Financial difficulties
  • Chronic illness
  • Trauma
  • Body changes
  • Leaving church or religion
  • Natural disasters
  • Loss of control, trust or safety
  • Rehoming a pet
  • Marriage
"Loss is a part of life and now I have more than a 'grin and bear it' approach. I can dig into it and really touch the innermost parts of it, give up the pain, and come to a place of rest beyond it."
